because this summer has been more like spring…
ie – wet, windy and cool…
birdies have been doing the wild thing… pretty much constantly actually…
SO… there have been baby sparrows in the roof above my chair… I hear the parent birds wittering all the time.
Then there was a HUGE commotion … I shot out to investigate… so did Percy…
suffice to say, Perc got there first. A baby (nearly fully fledged) had fallen out of the nest. Percy took it under the deck and tortured it for at least two hours… BASTARD
Ugh. I don’t mind when cats catch and kill their prey right away, it’s what they’re meant to do. But I hate it when they toy with the poor creatures endlessly.
My former neighbour’s cat, Niko, the declawed one, was a fabulous hunter, but I suspect he caught and killed pretty quickly, even though I never saw him in action, only his “prizes” in various states of being eaten, under the shrub by my front step.
I’ve rescued a few moles and mice from the cats, and that one eastern milksnake a couple of summers ago. Hope all the critters have packed their bags and left our back space for good. LOL.
Poor percy. He’s genetically programmed to be a ruthless killer. Minme would love to get oyut to be able to kill everything in sight. SO they sett el for destroying the couch and the woodwork. XO
I hate to think the damage mine would do – if they had to be stuck inside… we already lock the door to one room, because every time they go in there, they claw the couch…:-)
Don’t blame him too much mom. From what I know of cats, he was just doing what most cats normally do.
That’s true, and it IS the first time (since he arrived 3 years ago) that he has caught a bird… XO
Those cats.. so beautiful and so deadly, i have them to keep the rodents down but we have also lost the ground squirrels and many birds i am sure.. c
